Portrait Jean Clouet

Jean Clouet

1480 - 1541

Jean (or Janet or Jehannot) Clouet (c. 1485 – 1540/1541) was a painter, draughtsman and miniaturist from the Burgundian Netherlands whose known active work period took place in France. He was court painter to French king Francis I. Together with his son François Clouet he is counted among the leading 16th century portrait painters working in France. They are particularly known for their accomplished drawings, using black chalk and pure red chalk.
