Sallie Curb Arnold

1880 - 1982

Sallie McAllister Curb Arnold (September 12, 1880 – April 23, 1982) was an American artist from Alabama. She was born in Perry County, Alabama. Her father was a Confederate veteran from Brush Creek of that county. Her family lived in Old Town in that county, both shortly before she was born in 1880 and while she was a young woman in 1900. She married Herman Ross Arnold in 1907; they had three children together. By 1910, the couple lived in Mayville, Kentucky and by 1920 she returned to Greenville, Alabama in Butler County. She was artistically most active in Jacksonville, Alabama, where she lived in the 1940s and 1950s. She died in Annandale, Virginia in 1982 at the age of 101. Her work is included in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Birmingham Museum of Art.
