Henry Fuseli, born on 7 February 1741 in Zürich and died on 17 April 1825 in Putney Hill, London, was a Swiss painter, draughtsman, and writer on art who spent much of his life in Britain. Fuseli was born in Zürich, the second of 18 children, and his father was Johann Caspar Füssli, a painter of portraits and landscapes. Fuseli is known for his fantastical paintings inspired by classic literature and served as Keeper of the RA Schools for 21 years. He was a friend of William Blake, who made engravings of several of his works. Fuseli's works are celebrated for their dramatic compositions and use of color, capturing the essence of Romantic ideals and emotion. His career was marked by his ability to depict the elegance and drama of his era, making him a celebrated figure in late 18th and early 19th-century Swiss painting.
